Small Changes Can Make Big Health Differences

Small Changes Can Make Big Health Differences

Blog Post by Christopher Haymon of

You don’t have to rearrange your whole life to make a big difference. By implementing small, positive changes and sticking to them, you can slowly transform your life. Even better, small changes are easier to stick with because they don’t turn your life on its head.

Get Some Extra Walking In

Experts say you should walk for 30 minutes each day, but this doesn’t have to be done all at once. Instead of fitting a long walk into every day, aim to get some extra walking in whenever possible. For example, you can park your car a block from your job and add five to 10 minutes of walking time to each workday. You can do the same thing when shopping. Walk around the block a few times after dinner and bring the family along.

Fit in a little more activity wherever it works best for your schedule. It’s actually easier to stick to a healthier routine that includes exercise when you can quantify your progress. A smartwatch can help keep you on track with built-in fitness features. Customize it to your liking with bands, protectors, and the like so it fits seamlessly into your day-to-day.

Also, if you have a dog, get them involved in the walk! They can help you stay motivated to stick to your routine — and they’ll help remind you, as well. Just remember to pay attention to your dog during the walks; the last thing you want is for them to get overheated. While you can provide them with mats that help regulate their temperature, you don’t want to push your dog too hard during these walks.

Lastly, don’t be surprised if you get bitten by the exercise bug! If you decide you want to take your workouts further, find a trainer on the Personal Fitness Trainer Directory who can help you achieve your fitness goals.

Play Games

Making time to play games can be both fun and rewarding. For example, some studies have shown that playing video games increases cognitive functioning. In turn, this could help improve your life at both work and home.

If video games don’t interest you, try creating a family night or friend’s night and playing some board games. Board games can help with problem-solving, teamwork, sportsmanship, and more. These are all valuable skills to have in life.

Turn It Off

Finding a balance between work and life can be difficult, especially when you’re always “plugged in” to your job. Learn to turn work off when you leave the office. Don’t check your work emails when you’re sitting at home. Don’t take work projects home with you unless you’ve already been told you’ll be paid extra for those hours. It isn’t worth your time or mental health to constantly be working, especially when you’re off the clock.

Take Control of Your Skin

People with skin problems, such as acne or psoriasis, can have their confidence lowered. Lowered self-esteem can contribute to anxiety, depression, and even decreased productivity. By taking control of your skin problems, you can help increase your confidence.

For example, there may not be a cure for psoriasis, but there are plenty of ways to help manage it. Speak to your doctor or dermatologist about topical treatments, oral medications, or even injections. Alternatively, you could try ultraviolet light therapy. Creating a healthier lifestyle may also help manage symptoms for both psoriasis and acne.

Keep Your Environment Clean

Keeping your home and office clean is essential to your overall health. Not only can a cluttered or dirty work environment affect your productivity, but it can also affect your physical health. This is especially true for people with skin conditions (like psoriasis), allergies, asthma, and compromised immune systems. By keeping your environment clean, you reduce the risk of health-related consequences, including frequent colds and asthma attacks.

Get Help With These Small Changes

Small changes can make a big difference in your life, but you don’t have to go about these changes alone. For example, you can get the assistance of a dermatologist for your skin problems and use a commercial cleaning company to keep your home office environment healthy.
