Just as you would when starting any other exercise routine, you need to talk to your doctor about what is best for you and your pregnancy when it comes to exercising. While you can find plenty of advice online and from trainers, your doctor will be best equipped to look at your pregnancy and health and help you figure out what is best for you and your health during this time. 

There may be things you do normally that could cause issues for your pregnancy. They can even help you develop an appropriate workout routine that allows you to keep up with your favorite activities.

Avoid Intense Workouts

While you may be able to continue your more intense workouts at the beginning of your pregnancy, that may not be the best idea for you and your health. High-intensity workouts can make you feel good, but they also cause a lot of stress on your body, and they take up a lot of energy. 

You should reduce the intensity of your workouts during a pregnancy to avoid stress. Contact sports are not a good idea, and as you start to show, any exercises that require a lot of balance can be dangerous, as your center of balance changes and you need to adjust.

Listen to Your Body

The most important thing you can do is to listen to your body and make sure that you are paying attention to how you feel. In general, if you have been exercising a lot before your pregnancy, you will be able to keep up with what you are doing, but you need to pay attention to your energy levels. As you get further along in your pregnancy, it will become harder to exercise, and you should slow down as you feel you need to or change exercises to help you stay comfortable. If you find yourself experiencing concerning symptoms or feeling off after exercising, talk to your doctor about what you may be dealing with.

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to give up everything you love. You know your body better than anyone else, so make sure you listen to what you are feeling and that you work in conjunction with your doctor. Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to sit on the couch for nine months.
