Eating simple carbs can give you a burst of energy, but they don’t keep you full for very long and you end up needing to eat more.
Additionally, simple carbs are usually higher in calories which makes it harder to lose weight. Eating simple carbs also increases your risk of heart disease and type II diabetes. If you want to keep up your fitness goals and benefit your body, it’s better to turn to complex carbs like whole grains, vegetables, and legumes.
Foods With Unhealthy Fats
Fat is another category that has both good and bad options. Good fats reduce your risk of major health problems and they provide your body with essential nutrients. Bad fats, on the other hand, increase your calorie intake and negatively affect your health. Foods high in fat and cholesterol can increase your risk of heart disease.
Examples include processed foods, some dairy products, red meat, and more. Eating healthy fats will help you to feel full and satiated. They also decrease your calorie intake and increase your energy levels.
Most processed foods are full of preservatives, artificial flavors, added sugar, added salt, and a variety of ingredients that you can’t even pronounce. These foods are often higher in calories and they make it harder to progress when working out. To top it all off, processed foods actually take away the things you need. The fiber and other important nutrients are stripped away. You end up with empty calories that get in the way of your body functioning properly. As you work out, it’s better to choose whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. These foods give you nutrients without adding unnecessary and detrimental ingredients.
